Ford has announced that the Ford Focus Electric will stay connected to users with AT&T

The embedded connection in the Focus EV allows the driver/owner to transmit AND receive information through Ford's own MyFord Mobile App. Users will be able to access the app through their smartphone or the secure Ford website if they don't have a smartphone.

The MyFord Mobile app will report on the Ford Focus Electric's state of charge, locate charging stations, and use the GPS system to locate the car - which I can only think would be useful if the car is stolen, or if you parked in a parking lot full of Ford Focus Electric Vehicles and you couldn't tell which one was yours!

Ford says "This technology will keep drivers connected to vital information, enhancing their electric car ownership experience. The AT&T network is an important part of this equation, and we’re pleased to have AT&T on board."

There was no indication as to how or where this would integrate with Ford's Sync. Afterall, isn't that the electronic system that's supposed to go into all of the new Ford Vehicles?

Yes, thank you! In my haste to post before the weekend, I failed to confirm it posted to the Focus Electric Forum correctly.... the '&' symbol cut off the rest of my post too!

I love how the press release makes a big deal of the MyFord app being able to start the Ford Focus Electric remotely, and can be set to 'pre-condition the car to your desired temperature settings before you get in'... they do remember this is the FOCUS ELECTRIC right?

What exactly does starting the car remotely mean for an electric vehicle? Does it take 3 minutes to boot up like my Windows Laptop? I guess then it would be useful to start the boot cycle a few minutes before you want to leave.
