As a former SSN expert, the secret is in opening the drivers side door after the SSN and power outage occurrs. Opening the Door and closing it appears to reset the system for a clean attempt at a re-power up. (repeat as necessary) ;)
Glad things worked out for you as well! After my 12 different SSN episodes, and 3 months of utter denial from Ford I was able to force them to buy it back. Ordered a Tesla model S in October. Things have been much more gratifying since late December delivery! No more Fords for me.
I have a leviton L2 EVSE at work and at home -our car is either driving or on the charger at all times, never had a 12volt issue for 10800 miiles. SSN issue? different story all together.
Robochimp, I would be wary that the problem has been corrected - I have had mine in the shop five different times, with two hardware replacements (instrument cluster and coolant pump). Each time I have been assured that the problem had been found and that it would not happen again. I'm at 53...
In my case, it sounds like a software issue. I'm pretty sure I heard them mention that this update had to go through EPA approval before it could be rolled out. Funny, eh?

My car has been at the dealership since August 13th for its 5th SSN repair attempt. This will be the second time a field service Engineer has been brought in to try to resolve. Seems as though there are quite a few cars currently in the shop for this. Good luck everyone. I'm at approximately 50...
Unfortunately none of the steps should be necessary - but in the interest of getting your car safely moving once again I added that one to verify the car does not return to normal, and then to proceed to the next step. It's a bit sad that it has come to this..
The timing of this is quite funny. Of course - I posted up above about this and then an hour later had my 6th SSN error while driving along a four lane road in the Chicago suburbs. Its happened to me so many times now that its not quite as jarring anymore.
Here's my SSN survival tips.

I had 5 SSN "episodes" resulting in 4 dealership visits as well as one Field Service Engineer review. I did get a replacement 120volt unit after the last problem, but did not use it anymore since I finally had my Leviton 7.2 kW unit installed. Its been 2500 miles since the last SSN. I have...
