Thanks to Hurricane Arthur there are a few thousand trees down in my neighbour. Why we were not directly effected some have been without power for a week. This has got me looking for backup power to run the fridge and freezer I have purchased a 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter for $250 that I intend to power from my focus electric's 12 volt battery.

Both the fridge and freezer name plates say 5.0 A 115 VAC (575 watts). I need to confirm actual draw with a co-workers watt meter but I believe I can run one at a time for a day or so with a full battery.

I have read where a Leaf owner did this in the DC area has fall where is what got me interested in the idea. Does anyone have any experience trying something similar?

This has been discussed before:

You can see in there where I've used a 800 watt inverter to power a batting cage.
