    Failed High Voltage Battery

A couple months back I was having some code show up to STOP NOW. Took it to the local Ford dealer as it was still mobile. They told me the batteries had developed a coolant leak. The car had 73K and they replaced the HV batteries at no charge. Took a couple weeks but NO CHARGE. Way cool. Range...

1 Year In, thoughts on my FFE

I bought my Focus Electric last year in June w/ 15,315 miles on it. I now have 33,000 miles on it some 15 months later. It is my daily driver-23 miles each way to and from work. During the summer I can charge at work and skip charging at home. Winter is another story. I have to charge at both...

    2012 FFE Trailer hitch

I just installed a trailer hitch on my 2013 Focus Electric. It is a Curt model #11158. It is for the Focus SE. Required some cutting and grinding of welds from the support for the battery box. Really easy. Used a Milwaukee mini saw to cut thru the cross bracket and a grinder to cut the welds on...

I have strange issue with my Charging Port Light Ring

Ford replaced my light ring under warranty as it would only light up halfway. I learned a valuable lesson when plugging in at a public charge station. I had plugged in and the cord was in such a way that the car next to mine parked way too close and drove over the cord. It got pulled down and...

    HVB Charge Preperation

A couple weeks ago it was really cold here (-10f) and I heard a coolant pump running and the vehicle wasn't pre-heating the cabin It only ran for about 5 minutes then shut off.

    Interesting Cold Weather Event

Last June I purchased a used 2013 FFE from a local independent dealer. They buy at various auction lots. Mine was originally shipped to a dealer in Roswell, NM and leased by a individual in Wichata, KS. I have to Maroney label which shows the original destination and the previous owner...

    1997 Solectria Force for sale

I was planning on 52 CALB 100 batteries. That would raise the voltage a bit. About 400 lbs for the batteries, cables and monitor system. A savings in weight of around 475 lbs. The car has a Brusa NLA512 charger. Previous owner paid over $4K for it. It is programmable to properly charge the CALB...

    1997 Solectria Force for sale

I recently purchased my FFE so I no longer need/want my 97 Solectria Force. I bought it a few years ago and drove it just a short time. It needed batteries and I was going to convert it to CALB 100 Lithium batteries. The lead acid gel cell batteries were only 3 years old but took a serious...

    Woes of winter range

My winter time range has really fallen off. I'm averaging 48 miles fully charged w/ pre-conditioning the cabin. I use a level 2-240vac/16 amp power cord at home and have a GE Dura-station at work that is capable of 30 amps but at 208vac. Charge times seem about equal-2.5 hours on each end of my...

    Tire Pressure monitor

Well I brought a summer tire to the shop. Busted down the outside bead and sure enough there is a TPMS. The one tire I had replaced when I got the car did not have a TPMS so I figured it used the WSS like so many new cars are doing. My bad. So I guess if I get a set of TPMS my tire warning...

    Tire Pressure monitor

I was doing some research on Alldata (a service/repair program we use at work (I'm a mechanic)) and it says there is a TPMS in each tire. Checked Car Quest Auto parts and they list a TPMS for the vehicle. I'll bust down one of the summer tires tomorrow to see if there is a sensor or not...

    Tire Pressure monitor

When I bought the car this summer it had a bad tire. Previous owner had driven on it when it was very low so it got destroyed. I replaced the tire and I did not see a TPMS inside either on the valve core or on the wheel itself so I figured the vehicle uses the WSS to determine a low tire...

    Tire Pressure monitor

my 2013 Ford Focus Electric is driving me crazy with the tire pressure monitor system. I put on a set of winter tires and now just about every day the system gives me a warning. All tires are set at 40 psi and I have checked them everyday. There is no wheel pressure sensors in the system...

Cabin preheat via remote start blows cold air...

My "Go Time" would not work when I first got my Focus EV. It is still under factory warranty so I took it in to the local Ford dealer. They found a defective "modem'. Replaced it and now I can set the system. Looks like there are only 3 choices in temp settings-65F, 72F or 85F. I set it at 72F...

    Cup Holders

Probably the first thing I noticed I didn't like about the car. Wound up buying a stainless vacuum cup from Menards. If I get a tea from McDs and forget my SS cup I get a plastic pop cup to put the Styrofoam cup into. At least I can pull the Styrofoam cup out without tearing it.

    Reported Range after full charge

I've seen a lot of variation in the battery charge level. When I charge at home I usually see between 77 and 88 available miles. As soon as I hit the road I usually see a 5-7 mile drop on the GOM. I plug in at work and after 8 hours the GOM reads 84-96 available miles which also drops the 5-7...
