Seems like an overly simplistic view. Urban areas are huge heat sinks which is much more likely the reason for the elevated temps. Similar to the ocean being the reason the shoreline stays cooler in the spring and warmer in the fall than inland areas. I find it hard to believe that automobiles in urban areas generate enough heat to register any impact on temps.
