Do both USB ports have the same current output?

I was recently sitting in my car surfing on my full sized iPad. My iPad was plugged into the front USB port. The screen showed that the iPad was charging, but as I surfed the web, the battery percentage meter was ticking downward. I would have thought the USB port would put out enough current to keep up with an iPad in use, but I guess not. Does the other port put out more current, or are they both wimpy?

I would guess that they are both rated at 500ma like a standard USB port and not designed for high current tablet charging (which is typically 2+A).

Since its the same MFT design as the first one way back in 2011 (as is all MFT cars) I doubt its been upgraded.

You could add a 12V USB charger to kick it up to 2 amps
