"Check Brake System" message

Hello,
This message came on the dashboard 2 days ago: "Check Brake System".
Scared me a bit, as I was on highway, but the brakes were working fine. Also noticed slight grinding noise when applying brakes for couple of days.

Any ideas/ suggestions. Planning to take car to dealer during weekend. Car is fine otherwise.

The service manual suggests it could be an issue with the brake pads and/or discs.

If you hear grinding it could be the pad separated from the backing. Definitely check it out. You could inspect the discs through the wheel spokes, but you would need to check both sides.
