I'm seriously considering participating in the Alt Energy Summit this year, http://altenergysummit.org/, which is a drive to the top of Mt. Washington (~6000 ft) in New Hampshire. While investigating how to get my FFE there I came across this article,http://www.plugincars.com/ford-focus-electric-gets-95-braking-regen-efficiency.html which states the first production electric vehicle to drive to the top of Mt. Washington was indeed an FFE. I live about 180 miles from there so it will take some planning to get there especially since there are not that many charging stations in NH. But, I have found a way and hope to make it to the top this year.

Look for campgrounds along the way. Especially ones with 50A service.

You can find a lot of local campgrounds using this site:
http://www.rvparkreviews.com/

If you have a portable Level 2 with a 14-50P plug on the end you can use any campground with 50A service to charge up (I have a Clipper Creek LCS-25P and an adaptor for just such occasions).

Alternatively, you can check with Plugshare. There may be some owners on your route who would love to share a charge in exchange for stories of the hill climb and your adventures. (I see one private and several public ones around Mt Washington.)
