Hi all,
Trying to make decision. Ford is offering a buy back on my 2017 focus. I have 2 options. Accept a 70% of my original purchase offer (return car) or 20% offer and keep car with replacement battery and 10k miles left of warranty. What would you do? Thanks

Ok, so to clarify, you are having a problem with the HV battery?
And Ford offered to buy back the Car for 70% of $28000 ($19600)?
Or replace the HV battery free of charge and then give you 20% of $28000 ($5600)?
Hmm, don't know your emotional attachment to the car, but if it was me, that $19600 could buy a used Fiat 500e (for fun), and a good ICE car (for everything else).
If you were to take the second option and immediately sell the car, even with the new pack, I doubt you would get any more than $14000 for it. So if you are thinking only of money, then the first option is the one to go with.
If you do have an emotional attachment, the replacement battery is cool, but there are other parts of the car that might go belly up before the battery. Such as the onboard charger, the inverter, the motor, pumps, and anything that would plague an ICE car. If you do not mind doing the repairs yourself (the $5600 is a parts fund), you could go that route and keep the car for few more years.

Why are they offering to buy back your focus? Ford bought back my 2018 in 2023 as they couldn't source a part to fix under warranty. They would up giving me a very fair price imho but it took a lot of haggling.

I started the process while waiting to get the battery replaced. (Took almost 2.5 months). They approved the buyback the day they fixed the car. Ford said they would still proceed with buy back…

If purchased new, that would be like $21K USD, which seems like a great deal. Is that really what they are offering? If so, I would take it. They only offered me $12K USD a year ago when my battery failed and didn't offer me any $$ to keep it.
