    FFE Transmission Failure

Got my car back after about 6 weeks with a re-built transmission. They found "damaged input gear and final drive gear, bearing exploded". The service advisor said it was a needle bearing. I asked how much the repair would have cost had it not been under warranty. He estimated about $2500...

    FFE Transmission Failure

Update on my trans problem: 4 weeks now and the dealer still has the car. They ordered a new trans, it finally arrived, but Big Ford told them to do some diagnostic work to try and figure out what caused the failure. Apparently Ford has not seen this problem before in an FFE. Doesn't surprise...

    FFE Transmission Failure

The sound was rhythmic and seemed to be timed with the rotation of the tires. Kind of a soosh . . . . soosh . . . . soosh . . . It was not loud and I could only hear it at walking speeds in parking lots. Had to have the driver's window down to hear it. I think it just made the sound in...

    FFE Transmission Failure

I leased my FFE in Sept 2012. It now has 11K miles on it. It started to make an odd sound so I took it to the Ford dealer. They diagnosed it as a bad transmission. A new transmission has been ordered. Car has been in shop for 1 week and we are still waiting for the new trans. I love the...

    60 miles a day

My commute in San Diego is about 50 miles/day. I have plenty of charge left at the end of a typical day. I've only run the air a little, but it did not seem to use much energy. The heater is a different story, it uses a lot of energy. You should be fine with your 60 mile commute.

Is the heater/defroster a range killer?

Wow, a 40% reduction! I"m fortunate living in a mild climate. It will be interesting to see the amount of reduction I get when it gets colder down here. Thanks for the info Robin.

    Charging Port Door Opens Randomly

I'm having problems with the charge door opening randomly. Like others I initially thought it was just my forgetfulness. But it has happened too often, and reading that others have experienced the same problem indicates a design flaw or possibly user error. I'll start listening for the "click"...

Charging Station Options For The Focus Electric

I have had my FFE for about two weeks and have been pleasantly surprised at how well I can get along without the home 220v station. I use the FFE strictly for my commute to work and errands on the weekends. My commute is normally 55 miles per day, occasionally I've run an errand after work and...

Is the heater/defroster a range killer?

I live in San Diego and the climate is very mild. A great environment for Electric Vehicles. I'm not overly concerned about loss of range due to running the heater. I don't think we will really know the impact until owners start reporting their experiences which probably won't happen until...

Is the heater/defroster a range killer?

RW, I really appreciate your thoughts. I have looked at the owners manual and noticed how they stress pre-conditioning while on the grid and how AC/Heater and I guess defroster is coupled with the high voltage battery cooling/heater system. You suggest "The internal heating is done by a...

Is the heater/defroster a range killer?

dwf123, Thanks for your informative reply. I fit the "profile" for elect car. My commute is 20 miles one way. I usually use about 10 miles at lunch then come directly home for a total of 50 miles. When I run errands after work, they typically add under 5 miles. I do not have an opportunity...

Is the heater/defroster a range killer?

I am seriously considering the Focus electric but am a little concerned over how much impact running the heater and/or defroster will have on the range. I know it is a problem with the 2012 Leaf.
