Re: TCU Replacement?

TSB 13-9-19 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/2013/INSL-PE13031-59132.pdf I think the modem replacement/upgrade only involves programming the TCU. TSB 13-9-19 indicates reprogramming the powertrain control module (PCM). Is this what they are telling you needs to be fixed? What, precisely, are they sa...

Re: 2017 Focus EV Does Not Start

I don't think it's really all that finicky. You just don't get much feedback from the car to tell you if it's ON or just "on." No starter motor, no engine noise etc. Just a little icon on the dash. Other EVs may have a more sensible system. IIRC, the Model S starts simply by sitting in the...

Re: Best EV Charger for my workplace

For workplace charging consider that: 1) ~90% of commutes are <35 miles one way (of course it might be different for your company's employees) 2) cars will likely be parked at workplace ~7-8h This means that for most: - typical level 2 charging will replenish expended range to work in <1.5 h - level...

Re: TCU Replacement?

https://ford.oemdtc.com/2653/15n04-embedded-modem-replacement-2012-2016-ford-2015-lincoln Docs here suggest that the modem is (or is part of) the Telematics Control Unit. If this car hasn't already had the 3G replacement done under 15N04, I would think the replacement should be free (until 5yrs afte...

Re: TCU Replacement?

TCU= telematics control module? You mentioned a modem repair. Is that the equipment upgrade from 2G to 3G, or some other problem? I was under the impression that the 2G to 3G modem replacement required a TCU replacement (modem integrated in TCU? or maybe incompatible with old one?). Shouldn't the 3G...

Re: Stalling on startup

Total WAG. Possibly the reversing contactor is sticking and not making good solid contacts for the default current path (for Drive) after being switched to Reverse. I'm not certain, but I imagine that the FFE's controlling electronics monitors the high voltage contactors for temps and arcing and/or ...

Re: using "L" to brake

** i tried searching but didn't see a lot about this** So i'm soon to be a 2017 FFE owner ( my order is a couple weeks away). Working at a Ford Dealer i've had plenty opportunity to drive used FFEs and Energi CMAXs. i always end up finding myself switching the shifter to the L positions when approa...

Re: Emergency Backup Battery power

I've heard of people with the Solar panel spoiler option on their Leaf tapping their 12V battery with an inverter. Since the Leaf uses the traction battery and solar panel to keep the leaf 12v charged people can effectively draw down the traction battery in emergencies through the inverter. Theoret...

Re: 2017 FFE Newb charging questions

Sorry, my mistake. I did a search for it and the link I clicked on gave info for the plug-in version. There is apparently a hardwired version as well.

Re: 2017 FFE Newb charging questions

Yes, as others have said it's basically a smart extension cord. It sends a 1kHz pilot signal to the on-board charger, with the duty cycle indicating max amperage draw to protect your house wiring. There is also GFCI protection and a proximity detection circuit. It basically ensures that the charging...
