Ford is working with cities and utility comapnies in Ford Focus Electric launch cities to identify key infrastructure building blocks that will enable the areas to be EV ready.

While Ford is gearing up to launch the all-new Ford Focus Electric later this year, cities around the country are preparing for the arrival of the new Ford Focus Electric vehicles.

Some of the key actions Ford is taking in the 19 launch cities are:
- Utility rate structure that encourages off peak charging to minimize demand on the existing grid when charging the Ford Focus Electric and other electric vehicles
- streamlined permitting and inspection process to support customer and commercial infrastructure installation
- integrated committees that include participation from utilities companies, electric vehicle manufaturers and ev customers
- urban planning approach to optimize charge locations for the Ford Focus Electric
- infrastructure incentives to offset a portion of the customer cost of electric vehicle chargning hardware and installation

Mike Tinskey is Ford's manager of Vehicle Electrification and Infrastructure. Tinskey says 'As more and more electric vehicles come to market, it's incredibly important that cities develop action plans including infrastructure development and permitting solutions to ensure these vehicles are a viable solution for citizens'.

Boston, New york City and Philadelphia are hiring electric vehicle policy coordinators to help improve efficiency of the permitting process. Ford is 'encouraged' with the cooporation and overall urban planning approach that some cities are taking. Good planning is key in ensuring the most efficient use of investment dollars when it comes to installing public charge locations for the Ford Focus Electric and other electric vehicles.
