New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

Hmm ... I followed that link and read the post. So, are you retired, or are you physicist and that experiment was just a bus- man's holiday?.!? ;-} I hope your significant other is also into EV's!! Nice work, too, by the way ... !!

New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

I have a 2017 with the 33.5kwh battery, EPA rated for 115 mi of range. What does "EtE" mean (in your post)? (One source I read stated that the EPA starts with a fully charged battery, let's it sit overnight, then runs its dyno test schedule [either hwy or city] taking the battery to 0% SOC...

New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

Haha ... I may indeed have used thise words owing to my having lived and worked thru the DOS to Windows transition!! One wildcard in knowing your available range is the actual capacity of your battery pack, given whatever time and usage degradation it's suffered. Ford's estimate of 115 miles...

New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

What is your goal in trying to reverse engineer the prediction algorithm?

New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

If only those 4-wheelin' pickup truck drivers zooming past me at 85 mph on US-131 felt the same about their driving efficiency as you do we would be a bit less close to climate calamity. But not to single out PU's, everybody zooms past me on the highway. (I'm thinking you don't even get on the...

New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

Bkeil84 must be driving more conservatively (slower starts, lots of coasting, and low top speeds) than the driving model on which the rating was based. That said, 148 miles *is* remarkable!!

New owner question about displayed range and real world range.

Watch your range estimate when you turn the heater on then off. Also, people call it a 'Guess-o-Meter', but, in fact, it's an 'Estimate-o-Meter' because, as noted by others, it's partly based on your driving efficiency. I like watching the 'Watt Hours per Mile' number. It's a dynamic reading...

Level 2 chargers that don't need hardwiring?

Take a lo9k at this one. It's UL certified. Some of the cheap ones are not. Grizzl-E Level 2 240V / 40A Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger UL & Energy Star Certified Metal Case Indoor/Outdoor Electric Car Fast Wall Charging Station, NEMA 14-50 Plug, Classic Black https://a.co/d/di0HQxo

    Electric Vehicle Charging Station

Welcome! Expanding on Scottt's answer, L2 charging is sometimes referred to as AC charging to differentiate it from faster, DC charging such as ChargePoint or Electrify America.

    New EV Battery Health App

Hi ClearWatt Two questions: (1) exactly what data does your app analyze, and exactly how does it collect that data? [" high frequency telematics based driving test" is not informative]; and, (2) is your app owned 100% by U,S. investors/owners, and if no, in what country is the controlling share...

Any 3G to 4G modem upgrade kits still available?

The functionality you describe, Heima, sounds nearly identical to what we had with MyChevy as former 2020 Bolt drivers. We miss many of those functions now with the MyVW software supplied by the mfg for our 2023 ID.4. MyChevy would even show us the individual tire pressures! Without the...

    Considering an FFE

Jghall00 suggests a Bolt. Aside from the large difference in cost, I can vouch for the Bolt as an excellent little car. We drove a 2020 Bolt Premium for three years and loved the car. If you can find one that has already had its battery pack replaced, at a price you can afford, then I would...

What did you do with your Focus today?

Fun times, Nevesaj! But the fact is, you're still an early adopter!! Best of luck with your Tesla!!

    Considering an FFE

I did something similar. I'd say go for it. Just keep in mind that the tax credit has an income limit of $150k AGI for a joint filing couple. The price seems fair in any case. Also we only use our FFE as a backup to our '23 VW ID.4, so the FFE does not get daily use. We very much enjoy the...

    Would you buy another BEV?

Clarifying ... the used EV tax credit is 30% of purchase price UP TO $4,000. The purchase has to be made thru a dealer registered to participate in the Federal Clean Vehicles Credit program. One benefit of this program is that the dealer is encouraged to take the credit up front, off the...

How to check battery health on used FFE purchase?

Three question: (1) In what country are you buying the car? (Relates to whether you qualify for a 30% tax credit, but only if you buy from a participating dealer.) (2) What are you paying for the car? (3) Is the battery the dealer offers truly new old stock? If the price was right, and the...

    Would you buy another BEV?

Pele: You mentioned "taking delivery in April 2022" so the car must have been pre-owned and at least 4 years old when you acquired it. How many miles did it have on it? Was any vehicle history provided pre-acquisition? You raise a lot of good points about the design and manufacture of EVs...

    Would you buy another BEV?

Answer to the OP's question: yes, we would buy another. In fact the 2017 FFE we bought last fall was our third, having left ICE cars behind for good. [And IMHO, no car that still gets the job done in reasonable fashion is worthless.]

Any 3G to 4G modem upgrade kits still available?

Thanks for pointing out my error. But that doesn't change the DIY steps necessary to make the mod that are beyond my capabilities.

What did you do with your Focus today?

I see ... so you're referring only to the cost of the propulsion energy and not the all-in costs per mile to yourself or the rest of the planet. As far as the sour comment goes, that was my mistake. That was the first post if yours that I'd seen, and it just sounded a little sour; like you...
