    Stop safely now warning

This is formally true, as far as software being independent. However, the two systems are still electrically interdependent. 1. one main route to SSN involves pulling down the 12V battery, and as bad software engineering choices allow way too many functions to wake the car up (or keep it...

    Stop safely now warning

I had a bunch of SSN incidents before the big recall and software update, then no problem for over a year (though I was not driving it in the winter). The vast majority seemed to be triggered by something--anything--draining the 12V battery, which apparently needs to be very well charged for...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

I've had the recall (after quite a number of SSN's). I just had another SSN. Thanks for the suggestion about checking for corrosion on the connectors. So far, most of the troubleshooting has been OS and module related, or figuring out how to avoid power drain on the 12V.

12-volt battery died; Ford "working on a patch"

Mine is dying again--third time, or maybe 4th--and Ford is unable to send a tow truck to jump me, despite the fact that it's a 12 volt battery problem, because the system insists that any Focus Electric needing a "jump" instead by towed to the dealership. It's 11:30 PM. I have an 8 AM...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

I now have some diagnoses and codes. Their comments are given as quotes. My comments in italics. i.e. the 12 V battery was drawn down considerably, but not faulty. this is rather startling, given that the car had "stop safely now" either two or three times, a "low 12 V battery" warning once...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

Hmmm... the shop said something about "reconnecting" or "re-seating some connections" on mine. I wonder if there are some connectors that are not clipped on as firmly as they should be. The car does have very good brakes! So maybe slamming on the brakes would do it. As for me, I'd hit some...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

Could this be a difference between the 2012 and 2013??? There seem to be several downgrades between the model years (mostly minor--fewer LED lights, loss of a couple of gizmos/features e.g.). I do notice that my manual seems unusually generic in spots. Thanks, though--I will pass this back to...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

NB we have (at least) two threads on the same topic. More details over at the "sudden power loss while driving" forum. http://www.myfocuselectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=899&p=3340#p3340

    Sudden power loss while driving

I posted an update over in the "stop safely now" forum. http://www.myfocuselectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=900&p=3339#p3339 Sorry for skipping from one to the other, they seem to be the same topic, but there's no way to combine them.

    Stop Safely Now Warning

An update: it's unclear if I had two separate problems, or one problem that magnified. But one thing that clearly was wrong, in conjunction with the "stop safely now" warning, was a drained 12V battery. Now, it's possible that the hard shut down I described helped to drain the battery. But it...

    Sudden power loss while driving

Yup, emailed the email address above, and then forwarded that to my local folks, along with a link to this thread. When I brought mine in for the new tire, it's the first time they'd seen one, but they seemed actually very well informed and keen (one guy had driven a leaf considerably, and...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

This is freaky. Mine did it today, same scenario, and (wait for it)--the mileage on it was exactly 1250 miles. What are the chances?

    Sudden power loss while driving

Just had this happen, luckily in a much safer situation. Was at the dealership for the first time, yesterday, for a new tire (got a gash). No problem driving home, mix of highway and suburb, about 8 miles. This evening, I pulled away from the curb, did a three point U turn (feeling as if there...

    Winter conditions.

Thanks for the tire suggestions--the ones it comes with are indeed p*ss-poor in snow. My contribution is more low-tech. I've been coming up with creative car clothing options, so as to not run the heater. I had everything covered (figuratively and literally) except I was lacking something warm...

    120V convenience charging cable

Has anyone figured out how to secure the cable? I park in an area that's not great, security-wise. The lot owner would be willing to let me plug in, but I don't want to come back to a missing cable. I'm thinking of routing it through the car (with the windows JUST tight enough), but I don't...

    Dear Ford...

I tried a couple of layers of blue easy release painter's tape, which only dulls the glow. Totally agree--the ring light should be a customizable option.

Make "vroom tone" volume and speed range user modifiable

In warm climates, wheel noise (or a quiet tone at speeds of less than 10 mph) may work ok for pedestrians who know they are at risk (e.g. the blind). But in cold weather (where people have hoods up or hats on), or for people that do not know they're at risk (e.g. the elderly, kids, people with...

fan programing, fan instructions word choice

"climate / fan speed / decrease" --especially when the fan comes on at full blast--is NEVER understood by the voice system. If it hears anything, it thinks that "decrease" is "degrees," and tries to change the temperature. First of all, have the fan set so that it does not come on at full...

    Best bike carrier?

Not an answer, but a summary of some research, because I'm looking, too... Several Thule styles claim to mount on a ford focus hatchback, but it looks like the non-electric hatchbacks have perforated rear spoilers, which would presumably allow the straps to pass through (not an option for us...

pedestrian warning tone in 2013 model?

I don't hear it, as the driver. A friend says there is a tone, at low speed. Some online reports say one wasn't ever planned. There was a contest to pick a tone. I'm assuming there is a tone. I'd like to customize the volume (clearly not high enough, based on people nearly stepping in front of...
