Just did. Cruised through most of the "Winter" posts. Much of it rings true. Although your take on the Focus "traction" in winter isn't as damning as my experience. "Traction control" flashing all the way to 30 mph isn't my conception of a "good experience".

Thread necromancy incoming... I felt I should give an update after more than a year of driving the car. I'm now approaching 30k km and no perceptible battery degradation. No major technical issues with the car. My previous post was a warning of what winter driving would be like. I thought I...

2017 FFE let's get some real data here.

Check tire pressure (should be close to 41). Reduce heater usage (set the auto temperature target to a low number). Pre-heat the car with the remote starter while plugged in before you leave. Also, allow some time (a few days) for the guess-o-meter to adapt to your driving habits, temperature...

Your tires are probably over-inflated due to high temperatures outside. I checked mine this morning while cold and they were at 47 psi. Awfully close to the limit of 51 psi that the tires can take. I removed some air to put them down to 41. Having higher pressure in your tires does increase...

This. It's reassuring to have 2 driver's licenses available.

If you had to charge on L2 due to defective DC charger, it would take 5 hours to charge, not 24. That's still pretty bad. Yes an extra hour every 150 km is not bad, but it's not good either. Having an "easy way" in the form of a low consumption ICE in my garage, which I can drive at full speed...

Probably due to higher inflation of the tires due to higher exterior temperatures. I've also started seeing 200+km on the GOM and we live in the same climate. Last time I checked my tire pressure, it was up to 45 psi, instead of the 41 psi I put some weeks ago.

I want to share my experience with fast charging my 2017 FFE. I recently did a trip of 200+ km one way, with a stop in the middle to fast charge. Shortly after plugging in, the charging rate was somewhat stable around 320V 125A, according to the panel on the charging station. My car went from...

    Will a stroller fit?

I have a Graco Pace Click Connect and I cannot fit it without removing both the cargo organizer and the tray. If I leave the tray in, the hatch doesn't close without bending and possibly damaging the tray. I can also unhook the tray and sort off leave it hanging there on top of the stroller at a...

Did my first "long distance" trip. Drove to the mountain for skiing 60 km each way, 120 km total, driving 100kmh most of the time. Started with 95% battery, was at 54%/80km left at the mountain (I was slightly worried at that point) and ended back at home with 21%/40 km left (downhill and regen...

As long as you don't heat, you should be perfectly fine... Right? I don't have enough experience yet to tell 100%, but speed doesn't seem to have such a huge effect on range. You can also drive like a grandma in the right lane if speed is an issue. Having excessive range for my needs was one of...

I also note that it says that charging lithium batteries fast is bad. The faster the charge, the greater the effect on the integrity of the battery. Back home after a low temperature commute, still using heat all the way. I was down to 60% battery remaining. This is almost a worst case test. It...

I don't know. Superstition? I was under the impression that freezing the battery would permanently damage it. Your report is greatly encouraging. I will no longer worry about leaving it in the cold. It rarely gets very hot up here in the Great North, so the battery will probably not get very hot...

That sounds bad. Sounds like something I should avoid at all costs. Unfortunately I don't have a better solution right now, but at least winter is over. Come next winter, I may be able to figure out something, such as interior parking.

More updates on winter driving. Today is cold (-12C). Drove 20 km with heater on (toasty cabin at 20C) and heated seats, with some help from cabin pre-heating (the pre-heating seems underpowered when plugged in L1, don't know if it gets better when plugged in L2, it did get better when I turned...
