There's been years of on and off rumors that Honda may be reviving the NSX, or at least building a successor to their supercar. Now, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has confirmed that his company is hard at work developing a "sports car like the NSX".

MotorTrend predicts that the new NSX will be a futuristic concept car. The new Honda supercar will have a high revving v-6 ening powering the rear wheels, and twin electric motors in the front getting power from lithium ion batteries. The car could be charged at home like a plug-in hybrid.

Styling is a secrect, but the body will be made of aluminum to keep the weight low. The new Acura NSX will probably be on sale around 2014.

It seems like many car companies are greening up their supercars - perhaps Ford should come out with a plug in hybrid GT-40?
