Why would anyone pay more for a battery than a whole new car costs? $25K for a battery is pretty stupid. I guess they just put that there so no one would buy one.

Tasca Ford has them for $19,655 https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/fo ... 1fz10b759e. Still, a lot of cash.

This one is less than $8k, but I don't know enough to know what the difference is.https://www.bergefordparts.com/oem-part ... m5z10b759k;

I seem to recall reading that Nissan was quoting battery replacements for the Leaf in the $6-7K range, I would hope the "actual" cost for FFE's ends up being somewhere in that vicinity. I highly doubt Ford spends $21K on the batteries when they manufacture the cars.... but if they do, at least it confirms this as a true "compliance car" with every absurdity implied by of the term. (It probably is, but I still doubt they pay $21K for the battery.)

The 23 kWh battery pack was selling for about $8k just before the 33.5 kWh pack came out. I doubt Ford is paying more than $5k for the 33.5 kWh pack. I think the reason Ford jacked up the battery pack price so much was to get people to buy the 2017 model as opposed to putting larger battery packs in the older FFEs.

I'm really not worried about the price of the battery packs. It's going to be a couple of more years before the battery packs of even the oldest FFEs go out of warranty. By then I think we will see much lower prices and probably even some after market battery packs.

That makes a lot more sense to me. Removing the incentive to self-upgrade. Given the sparse sales numbers for the FFE I'd be doubtful of an aftermarket battery, but who knows. Might be a cottage industry later on when the used market shapes up and folks look at the FFE's 107kW motor vs. the Leaf... I would imagine the Leaf eventually has aftermarket support though.
