Everyone knows that replacing an incandescent light with a compact florescent bulb can save energy. Doing it to a few bulbs around your home only has so much impact.

Shortly after announcing its first electric car, the Ford Focus Electric, Ford announced on Friday it was going green with its Dearborn Michigan plant by replacing 50000 light fixtures. Doing so will eliminate 11000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Ford is also placing occupancy sensors in low traffic areas that will turn lights off when no one is around.

These changes actually resulted in $1.3 million in savings, which begs the question: why didn't they do this sooner and when will they do it to their other plants?
