BMW I3 CCS charging port
CCS or combined charging system is the level 3 (DC) charging standard that is supported by European and US manufactures. This is a fairly new type of level 3 charging standard. CCS doesn’t need a separate dedicated charging port. There are currently 146 CCS station* in the US right now with plans to install much more. It’s very likely that the number of CCS charging stations will double over the next year. In Europe CCS is far more popular with 834 stations** currently on line. If level 3 charging is ever added to the FFE it will most likely be CCS. Some of the first CCS station being installed will be duel port. These stations will have both a CHAdeMO and CCS ports. CHAdeMO installations are primarily being driven by Nissan Leaf, and Kia Soul EV vehicle sales. While CCS vehicles have only recently become available.

There's a local company installing DCQC stations in the Minneapolis area. Most of their stations are CHAdeMO only since the dual cord stations cost about $20k more than the CHAdeMO only stations. It's quite frustrating that the automakers can't agree. Tesla has opened up their patents and they have the best design charging port from a size perspective. Why can't all the automakers just use the Tesla standard?
