I guess I mis-remembered the article about what GM officially confirmed. I re-read it and see that GM would not confirm the production date at this time.

I think because a lot of things have top happen in a short period of time. They need to get prices from their parts vendors. These parts need to be tested for performance and reliability if it's a new part. Manufacturing cost estimates need to also be done. Design of the vehicle needs to be finalized. Software for the car needs to be written and tested. Crash testing on two vehicles needs to be done. EPA MPGe certification needs to be done. Design work on the Electric Sonic platform has been going on for while now. I suspect what customers will end up with will be nothing like what was shown at the Detroit auto show. Bolt I suspect was a prototype, a prof of concept vehicle that GM rolled out to test for consumer interest.

If we see a Bolt or Tesla model 3 before 2018 I will be shocked!

You guys are pretty pessimistic, Audi is releasing their etron next year or 2 with 280 miles all electric range -They are taking orders now! these models are all coming sooner than you think because the big boys are getting invloved and there is pent up demand.
