Hello all,

I was a big fan of the Volt, all through its 3+ years of development. Couldn't wait, so had my Prius converted to a plug-in :) .

I still love driving that, but I am excited about the FFE's much longer electric driving range.

Hi George, welcome to the Ford Focus Electric forum! Can you tell me a little bit about your prius plug-in conversion? Does that mean you had something added to your prius that allows you to plug it in and charge the battery pack without running the gas engine?

Hi, focusbev.
Yes, mostly. Hymotion, part of A123, developed a 5 kwh battery(about 180 lbs.) mounted in the Prius trunk where the rear tire would go. It lasts 20 to 25 miles depending on, you know, weather terrane and driving habits. Unlike the standard Prius, which brings in the gas engine when you throttle a little harder, this install causes it to favor battery use, unless you demand too much horse power.

It takes about 4-5 hrs. to charge from empty. We just plug into a std. garage 120v outlet.

So, if you don't mind being a right lane driver, it's really great. My best tank was 950 mi., and the fill-up took 6.1 gal. But most often (Chicago weather) it about doubles the std. 44 mpg from a regular Prius.

Not sure if Hymotion is still in business, as I haven't contacted them in years.

So, are you waiting to buy the FFE? :)

Greetings, my name is George. I live in the Seattle area. over the last 2 years I have become a strong EV advocate. I currently own the Nissan Leaf and have had a lot of fun owning it, that said, I have been eying the focus e for a while now. I really like the new look of the focus. As for the electric side of things, I am impressed that the Focus has battery temperature management which is good for both hot and cold extremes and for fast charging. I'd really like to see the Focus include a CHAdeMO port. The west coast green highway is now complete from Canada to the Northern border of CA. OR is about to put in 35 more CHAdeMO chargers allowing access to the coast and pretty much all over. I have joined this forum to better understand the Focus and to keep up on developments and also hoping the focus accepts fast charging in the near future as it could determine if we can have the focus as our second car.

No matter what we decide to do, I have been impressed with the Focus E so far and welcome a variety of EV choices so more people can get off gas!

Hello all,

Tim from Orange County, CA here and I purchased a Focus EV on July 4th for a commuter car. My wife and I considered a number of the EV and hybrid options to replace our 2004 Prius and the Focus really impressed. After a week, I'm very happy with my decision. We knew with the limited range it couldn't be our only car, but it seems perfect for my 55 mile round trip commute.

I hope others will consider taking the plunge.

Tim

very nice Hocus, best of luck. I'll be out your way near the end of August in Irvine/Newport area, the same week my FFE is scheduled to hit the dealer. Oh well, I'll just have to wait a few more days.

While the FFE is ridiculously expensive it is a pretty compelling EV. It looks great and by all accounts rides and drives really well. While the range issue will keep it and other EVs in a niche status for quite a bit longer I think the FFE is big leap in the right direction, if only because of its packaging.

I live in a rural area of eastern Virginia and the FFE would fit 90% of my driving needs very well. I service a small number of clients in a two county area and rarely drive more than 50 miles a day. My old '97 Avalon or my pickup will cover any other needs. I also have a garage with 2 200 amp electrical panels directly in front of where I would park. It is all just so easy to rationalize getting one. I will be watching for the first deliveries to Richmond Ford and any news from rwbill.

Hello everyone, I'm Ben from a lovely suburb of Detroit Michigan. I've been watching the FFE since Ford started talking about it a couple+ years back. Now it's here (well, not 'here' as in where I live, but available).

I want to believe that the FFE is more than just a CARB compliance vehicle. Ford led us to believe cars like the FFE are the way forward and invested some $550 million in a beautifully designed, solar powered, state of the art assembly plant built from the bones of a plant that produced gas guzzling SUV's for years. I have personally worked in the plant as a contractor many, many times both recently and since back when it produced full sized Broncos in the 80's. The new plant allows Ford to better balance production across the Focus platform (including the FFE) according to demand.

Having waited patiently for Ford to roll out the FFE here in the Michigan market per their staggered schedule, this morning I made contact with Jack Demmer Ford the dealer from whom I bought my E150 from in 2001 to see if there was any more info on when I could order the car. Jack Demmer Ford is located directly across Michigan Avenue from the assembly complex that includes the newly remodeled Michigan Assembly Plant where the FFE is produced. I figured there must be an advantage in reduced transportation time seeing as how they just drive the vehicles across the street to the dealer. After talking with a woman named Elizabeth who made some vague statement about '3-4 weeks', and a voice-mail from a salesman named Bob, I've been able to conclude that: 1. I CAN order the car (if I understood Bob's voice-mail correctly) and 2. He knows of no A/Z plan discounts or dealer incentives being offered on the car. I'm not planning to use an A/Z discount and expect to pay MSRP - but no more than that. I left Bob a voice-mail seeking further clarification but he has yet to return my call. I get the impression they'd much rather sell me a car with an ICE and a higher mark-up than the FFE. We'll see.
