Hello all,

Has anyone found the location of the stock Sony Amplifier? In the Titanium models, it is located near the spare tire under the carpet of the trunk carpet liner, but from what I've heard its not in that same location since the Electric doesn't have a spare tire and the trunk is configured differently. Here's a pic of what it looks like..

I'd like to be able to install a 150 watt 8" shallow mount sub tucked away since the battery is where the stock subwoofer was supposed to be. Would like to tie into the existing Front-Left Front-Right speaker wire without tearing everything apart.

I looked in the Ford Focus Electric Manual and could only find one spot that said the Sony CD Audio system.

Does the Focus Electric come with the same audio package with the external amp as the Focus gasoline powered does?

There's no official statement if its the same system or not, but the headunit seems to be physically similar along with the same speaker and center channel locations as the Titanium models' Sony 10-speaker system. Only official statement on the Ford website is that the Electric model has a 9-speaker system (counting out the stock subwoofer?)

I'm pretty sure there's no subwoofer. I can't find it anywhere. Where would an aftermarket sub and amp fit in the trunk - as the battery takes up so much space?

I think there is a sub somewhere... just from listening to it. I would really like to replace it too cause it sounds pretty cheap.

OK I guess I have to amend that. All the low end I thought was sub is coming from the front doors. There is no low frequency coming from the rear or trunk area. Maybe they have a midbass in the front doors or something? It is reproducing enough low end to rattle the plastic.

No luck in finding the amp yet. I think a sub would go nicely in the rear hatch area, replacing the box like thing for holding the charger. But one would have to locate the amp first. Maybe it is under the rear seat?

Maybe you could replace the rear midrange speakers in the rear doors with some high quality midbass and get some decent sub like bass as an alternate.

I've confirmed with Ford that there's definitely no subwoofer in the Focus Electric. I'm about to move ahead with install of an aftermarket sub and amp. Assuming I don't care about the loss of space, any reason not to do this?

Did you end up installing a subwoofer in the Focus Electric? I'm looking to do the same. I found someone posted some screenshots in the FFE facebook group (https://imgur.com/a/IswYz) but I don't have details on how it was done. Please let me know if you're willing to share some more information on your setup.

Great dig up of an old thread.

Would a 10" Bazooka w/ a 250 watts amp fit? That, and some dynamat in the doors would probably kick the system up a few notches without breaking the bank. Are the stock door speakers worth keeping? Where can we find full specs on the head unit and the speakers? How much power do we have coming off the head unit? Is it enough to power a set of Kicker component speakers?

Someone has to have upgraded the FFE stereo.

Side note: It looks like Ford is getting rid of the Sony sound systems in the next Focus redesign. (2019 or 2020 models)

Wish I had some time to take apart the dash & see what the headunit or DSP/amplifier outputs look like. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the subwoofer pre-outs are sitting right there.... disconnected.

You're probably right. Is there a grayed out subwoofer control in the menu system?

Go the the Ford Focus Fanatics forum. There are people that have torn apart the dash and upgraded the speakers. I remember a very long post where a guy went through every single step for each speaker. I'm pretty sure I referenced that post somewhere on this forum. The ICE and FFE are pretty much that same thing head unit-wise. You're only problem is no space in the back for that Sony sub - you kind of have to do something creative like that person you mentioned.

Your other option might be the FFE shop manual that was available here.

I found a youtube video that looks helpful. I'm going to try following it. First I need to order an amp and sub.

FFE install should be a bit easier because there is already a 12V accessory plug in the trunk.

Also, see http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/car-audio-sync-myford-touch-electronics/324097-simple-focus-mk3-audio-upgrade-6.html

I guess the benefit of using the parrot harness (http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=QCFOR-11MK) is that you don't need to cut factory wires. Just plug in the parrot t-harness.

In today`s world, music as a form of entertainment has played a vital role in many individual ways of life; itself has become a lifestyle.

According to the factory wiring diagrams, there is no amplifier for the FFE stereo system and no subwoofer.

Just five speakers (Plus tweeters, less the one in the dashboard.) equating to nine total speakers.

When I do upgrade my FFE's stereo, I will catalog my journey in a separate thread. I've gotta have some bass.

Yes. I would think Sony would be embarrassed to have their name on this system. The rear speakers are basically useless.
