I see that the Ford Focus electric has a push button start and I love this feature. I was wondering however if there was any way to start /stop a Focus EV remotely? Is there is any type of engineering that would let you start / stop your Focus EV from outside the vehicle.

Hi Eco. I'm not an expert on the Focus Electric but do have one on order, hoping for delivery in Sept-Oct.

I don't know what you expect by remote starting, that is, what would be accomplished.

You can "pre-condition" the Focus's cabin to an internal temperature using grid power before you go on a trip using the web or smartphone/iphone/ipad app. This way can greatly reduce power required from the battery for temperature management, thus potentially greatly extending the driving range. That is, if it's 26 degrees in an unheated garage, or driveway, you can pre program the car to warm up the cabin to 50 or 60 degrees, simultaneously defrosting the windows and outside wing mirrors, while the battery is warmed to optimum operating temperature for maximum range, all on grid power while you're showering and getting dressed, leaving the full battery capacity for driving. While driving the battery merely must maintain an acceptable cabin temperature rather than have to raise it from 25 to 50. Depending on location and time of year, as the sun comes up the ambient temperature could quickly rise, requiring very little battery power for temperature management.

I'm not sure if that's something you were alluding to. There isn't much to "starting" the car otherwise, the button just activates all the systems in a second or so. I don't know that much about hands on operation yet, sorry I'm just shooting in the dark here!
