Hi,

I came across this used FFE listing and hadn't heard of upgrades being done by Ford?:

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventory ... =214653684

I messaged the owner and the car was not upgraded with CCS. However he battery AND drive unit were upgraded due to the coolant leak.

Good news would be that if legit, this opens an upgrade path to more range for older/faded FFE's.

Here is the description in case the link doesn't work, as this is my first post.
2013 Ford Focus Electric with 33.5 kWh battery, 65939 miles Original 23 kWh battery was swapped for a 33.5 kWh under warranty in November 2017. Range went from original 76 to now 115 mile EPA rated. In city driving I have gotten as high as to 140 miles/charge. Battery coolant leak caused Ford to replace battery in 2017. Luckily for us, Ford installed the 2017 version and it became a whole different car with 50% more range. Pearl white metallic paint. There are a couple of small scratches on rear bumper as seen in pictures. Mostly parked indoors and in very good shape otherwise. Nice features: Smartphone app controlled (climate, locks, charging. Very nice to remotely turn on AC before you go to the car.) Xenon lights, keyless driving, 17” alloy wheels. Tires 2/3rd thread left. Battery and drivetrain warranty: 100,000 miles/8 years. Our family are the second owners, we have had the car for 2 years. It has been awesome since it got the big battery! Selling due to upcoming Model 3 arrival, otherwise this would be a keeper.

Several people on the forum here have had their old 23 kWh batteries replaced with the 33.5 kWh one under warranty.

Otherwise the rest of the car is pretty much identical as far as the powertrain is concerned.

Oh ok, that's good to know they definitely can be upgraded. Thanks.

MaybeFFE, the only problem is the new battery is more expensive than buying a new FFE. Seeing as how FFE production stopped in May and there were so few FFE made we will likely never have a viable upgrade path for the battery. Also it's not a drop in replacement. Ford has a technician do something with the computer to use the newer high capacity pack.

Yeah, like the others have said this is something that is usually only done under warranty by ford. Prices for these parts are way too expensive to make it worthwhile to upgrade. Especially for a gain of less than 50 miles. I would be wary of that car anyway. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Yea, the price to upgrade is stupendous.

My 'upgrade' cost over $30,000.

(warranty battery and motor replace)

But, the new range is AWESOME! Ford really stood behind their product. Feeling some brand loyalty.

...and hopefully can get another 5 years out of the car.
