Still waiting for the Ford Focus Electric Safety Ratings

Sat Jul 02, 2011 6:46 am

Ford has yet to provide the 2012 Ford Focus Electric vehicle to the federal government and insurance agencies for crash tests.

If we could compare the Ford Focus gasoline and the Ford Focus Electric, then we could tell you the Focus Electric has a 5 star frontal crash rating and a 3 start side crash rating. However, the Focus Electric and Focus gasoline are quite different. Desipte being built on the same Global C platform, the Ford Focus Electric will have heavy batteries in various locations, a lighter engine (electric motor) and electrical plugin stuff - for lack of a better word.

What we can say about the Ford Focus Electric's safety systems is that the Focus Electric vehicle will come with siz air bags and electronic traction control. The Focus Electric will also come with the MyKey system which allows parents to limit speed and stero volume when their teens are driving the car.
