Ford reported $2.5 billion dollar first quarter profit - the highest they've had since 1998. Their sales have definitely benefited from shifting to smaller more fuel efficient vehicles like the Ford Fusion Hybrid.

During the first quarter, US sales of hybrid cars were up 33 percent, and subcompact car sales were up 23 percent. The Ford Focus Electric will definitely fall into that category and could benefit very well from the high fuel costs today.

"Today's car buyers are looking at more than the initial price of the vehicle, they want to know what it's going to cost them in their daily travels".

While Ford is making inroads in fuel consumption with its EcoBoost engines, its innovation in regards to electric powertrains has also been receiving attention. Ford's first all-electric vehicle, the 2012 Ford Focus Electric, will be released in 19 markets later this year.
