With the Ford Focus Electric set to hit the market later this year (or at least that's the last date we've heard from Ford) and the Nissan Leaf already on the Road, the New Jersey Assembly has passed a bill requiring charging stations at rest stops along the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway. Another bill would require any new shopping center to provide charging stations for at least 5 percent of parking spaces.

The state has also streamlined the process for local code inspectors to sign off on residential charging ports.

Areas of the state have shown high levels of interest in the Nissan Leaf, and one can assume that will carry over to the Ford Focus Electric when it becomes available.

With the new laws mandating charging stations at popular locations, owning, driving and charging an Electric Vehicle like the Ford Focus Electric just got a little bit easier in Jersey.

Wow - I'd be interested to know whether these bills are being passed because they're getting pressure from automakers, or if it's because they want to make it easy for people to own electric vehicles?

Who knows - maybe the Ford Focus Electric will have a 300 mile range so then charging stations won't be as necessary as with the Nissan Leaf.

p.s. It's Easter - we can all dream a little can't we?
