Organizers for the 2011 North American International Auto Show said Wednesday that the economic impact of this year's show should easily exceed the estimated $325 million that the event contributed to the local economy last year, in part because automakers are spending more money on elaborate displays.

Ford has built a large, elevated test track that will showcase its electric cars, including its battery-powered Transit Connect commercial van and its Ford Focus Electric compact car. Ford said it will dedicate 71,700 square feet of space to its Ford brand.
