US President Barack Obama gets into an electric Ford Focus as he attends the groundbreaking of a factory for Compact Power Inc. in Holland, Michigan July 15, 2010.

And now on with the real Ford Focus Electric article! Researchers have developed a new type of advanced l-ion battery that has higher capacity and energy content. They built it using a tin carbon anode and a lithium ion cathode - this new type of chemistry 'make the battery a very promising energy storage for powering' electric vehicles like the Ford Focus EV.

For those of you that really understand battery terminology, it oggers 100 high rate cycles of 170 Wh/kg, compared to a conventional lithium-ion battery that has 120-150 Wh/kg. While that doesn't sound like much of an increase, it is 13% more, meaning that if the Ford Focus EV has a range of 100 miles, with the new battery technology it could travel 13 miles farther.

Researchers say they aren't finish and are continuing to look for even higher battery outputs in order to make systems suitable for the electric vehicle sector.

Hopefully Ford will be able to use these newest and best-est batteries in the Ford Focus EV!
