How to test modem

Is there any way to test the modem in these cars to see that its working? Is there some sniffer app for the phone or obd app that can tell if the modem is working. Is there any way to Query the modem and get some response. The modem is listed in the settings of my sync but Im not sure if that info comes from the modem or if the tech manually inputs the numbers from his scan tool. This is a newly installed 3g modem. Also, what is that antenna thing running under the mat behind the battery in my storage compartment? It is plugged in as well.

The obvious test is if you can log into your car using myfordmobile.com or the mobile app. If you can get trip info or lock and unlock the doors, then you are golden. As for OBDII, I think the telemetrics unit is one of the modules, but I'd have to double check and I'm not sure if any of the data there is indicative of a successful connection with Ford.
