I'm a former 2014 FFE leasee who returned the lease in Aug of 2017. That car now resides in Amman, Jordan.
So, I just bought a 2016 FFE that had an in-service date of 5-4-2017. It still has 18 months on the 3 yr/36K mile B to B warranty.
Finance manager did the hard-sell 3rd party service warranty. I did not buy it. I asked what already comes with the car as it is. The selling points were:
1. 2331 original miles. (yes, two thousand three hundred thirty-one! It looks and smells like it lived on the showroom floor for 3 years. Absolutely brand new appearing in every manner) (Probably sat in the service dept. non-operative!)
2. Ford Certified Pre-Owned Comprehensive Limited Warranty for an additional 12 months/12K miles added to the end of the 3 yr/36K B to B warranty.
3. Ford Certified Pre-Owned Powertrain Limited Warranty for 7 years/ 100,000 miles from in-service date.
4. Clean, one-owner CarFax.
5. $15,900 seemed fair. It's basically a brand new car.
Has anyone had any service work done under the '8 year/100K mile Bttry PK & Unique Elctrc Cmpnents' warranty listed on the original window sticker? What are the 'Unique Electric Components?
Or for that matter, the 5 yr/60K Powertrain warranty listed on the original window sticker?
Has anyone ever had a good experience with a third-party service warranty company?
I'm trying to decide if there is any value to the 3rd party warranty beyond what already comes with the car.
The one offered me is called 'The Mechanic'. It is locally provided and administered in CA by Motor Warranty Services of North America.
Parent company is Resource Automotive recently purchased by Assurant. A company that sells warranties for just about everything under the sun. It says they sell 'peace of mind'. I have a feeling that the full extent of it. No real, tangible benefit.
