There's at least 1 thread here reporting on fully discharging to a dead high-voltage battery. Look through the previous posts and you'll find it/them.

I was wondering specifically if there is a few miles of reserve charge that is being underreported.

In my case I got about a mile farther after being told that the charge was depleted and to pull over safely, but that was going uphill. I'm thinking that there's maybe a half kilowatt or less in "reserve".
