Re: Focus Electric won't start

I have noted that the FFE is very particular that the brake must be depressed before pressing the power button. Whereas on the Volt if you press the power button and then immediately press the brake it seems to do a full start up. Adding to the confusion is the fact that accessory mode (power button...

Re: Single Speed Transmission

I'm surprised their not putting transmissions in these things, they'd get better mileage/per charge if they added gearing to reduce the motor load at low speed. Not necessarily. In general, electric motors are more efficient at higher RPMs. Yes you have full torque at 0 rpm, but the motor is least ...

Re: What do you want to know about the Focus Electric?

I have not found a way to charge to a certain level. They have a choice of charge or value charge, which is a way to charge during off peak hours. Buy, when you charge it simply caps the battery off. If anyone knows different, please post. I am not even certain charging to a certain percent is nece...

Re: Charged, is your car in Maryland now?

Rwbill wrote:Jason said my car was produced and waiting shipment, possibly arriving 20th August. He said "the one that was ordered before yours" is in Maryland now. Is that yours?

You could have it by Wednesday!

Right you are. Jason called today. But don't think I can get up there till Friday.

Re: Charging Port Door Opens Randomly

I've charged the Volt outside in the rain using a hard wired 240v EVSE many times. The only place I could see it being an issue is if you are using the 120 EVSE and plugging into an outside receptacle. You are relying on that receptacle to be properly wired and hopefully GFCI. In the 120v case the d...

Re: What are you using for a charging station?

I ordered the Schneider from Home Depot. Used the Discover Card shopping link to get 10% off. Which puts the price at $720 after the 10%. Schneider is a 7.2kw supply which is sufficient for the FFE's 6.6 kw charger. Leviton unit looks nice but I don't see paying more than double for the same chargin...

Re: FFE 16 spoke wheels and tires

Trielectric wrote:Cleaning the 2012 Ford Focus Electric wheels is just as fun as cleaning our 1987 Mustang GT 16 spoke wheels. I have some 2012 FFE stock wheels and tires, w/600miles on them, available!
I take it that means NOT fun to clean them?

How much are you asking for the wheels and tires?

Re: Single Speed Transmission

In either car, you can get to a neutral coasting point by modulating the accelerator pedal - the Volt provides the power flow diagram that allows you to see this happening. I disagree. In the Volt, when in D, no matter how much play with the accelerator, you are either pulling from the battery or y...

Re: My initial questions

As far as the FFE handling the Arizona heat, it seems very likely that it will be able to handle it. There have been no reports of problems with Volts in AZ and since the FFE uses a similar battery chemistry and like the Volt has liquid heating/cooling it should be good to go. It will definitely run...

Re: Charging Port Door Opens Randomly

I wonder if people are closing the door properly. I know the first time I went to close it the inclination is to rotate the door back into position, and Ford even has a video showing someone do this, but that is not the proper way. Also, seem to remember that it is important to keep pressing the ind...
