Re: FFE Shopping question: Would you Rather?

I had these exact same options. The unknown element of risk in this car is battery life. Other electrical components have enormous longevity. That's why there is no preventative maintenance cycle to speak of for this car. I went with the low mileage car to minimize the biggest risk. The price ration...

Re: Ford FFE FSA 16A01

In Florida, the dealer said the recall doesn't count, just in the northern rust-ridden states. He didn't do it on my car. Of course, he could have told me that when I made the appointment listing the recall number as the reason, but that's another story.

Re: Engine Braking

I'm saying the car has X amount of kinetic energy as it is moving forward. To stop, all that energy has to be dissipated. You have wind resistance, gravity, tire adhesion, etc., conventional brakes, and drive train braking. Assuming for the sake of argument that no conventional braking takes place, ...

Re: Engine Braking

But would it make any difference? If your braking score is 98% without messing with the gearshift, why bother? There is only a fixed amount of kinetic energy to recapture as the car slows. At 98%, you've got about all you can. The drive train has re-absorbed almost all the energy pushing the car for...

Re: Shopping: Ford Focus Electric vs Chevy Spark EV

I just went through the same decision exercise and bought a 2013 with 14K miles. It is more practical space-wise and has a near-luxury car feel with the smooth, silent power train. I have no regrets. Note that you will see radically reduced range when you heat the car up there in Canada. I live in F...

Re: Blank Charging Display Numbers

FYI, the fix was pulling and replacing the F1 fuse in the left rear cargo compartment.

Re: Reported Range after full charge

I believe if you reset the Lifetime Totals to zero, it will stop using the previous driver's history in the GOM calculations and only use your driving history. I bought mine used and deleting that history seemed to make a difference. With a repetitive commute each day, you should get a pretty accura...

Re: insurance cost

My insurance cost was virtually unchanged from the 1986 Fiero I swapped out. When I asked why the more expensive car didn't cost more, the agent cited all the safety devices and two extra seats as making it a lower risk.

Blank Charging Display Numbers

All of a sudden, the display on right hand side of the dashboard that shows estimated time to charge when you stop the car, and the charge start and estimated stop time when you plug in, displays only dashes instead of numbers. The car charges fine, but the calculations are not displaying. Has anyon...
