Re: Ownership years

I was talking with a co-worker yesterday about this topic. I've always bought cheap used cars and driven them until they were scrap or became uneconomical to repair. I made some notes about the past four cars I've had. They averaged $6000, and lasted between 18 and 36 months. This included the 2002 ...

Re: Why does Ford think evening is good time to shut down MF

At my company, we get a warning the day before (or at least a few hours before) "scheduled" maintenance. In my view it's not "scheduled" if you don't find out about it until it's happening. Also, moderately funny: The banner ad over the top of the MyFocusElectric forum right this minute is for the F...

Re: Outdoor EVSE recommendation for snowy climate?

I definitely understand. The flexible conduit included with the HCS-40 runs through an anti-chafe/anti-pull fitting through the sheet metal wall, to an ordinary junction box indoors, where they are hardwired to my breaker panel. I see where I referred previously to the junction box as "below" the HC...

Re: Seattle Area Drive Electric Week event

I found out about the Drive Electric week events from this Forum and the Reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/electricvehicles subreddit. The Triple XXX Root Beer drive-in would have been swept away by suburban property value years ago if not for Sunday car shows. It's a great synergy, even though that bu...

Seattle Area Drive Electric Week event

There's an old burger stand out in Issaquah (about 20 miles east of Seattle) that has an automotive Americana theme and hosts about 20 car shows a year. Sunday was the second Electric Vehicle show, as a Drive Electric Week event. Three Focus Electrics were on display, and by luck we parked them all ...

Re: My random thoughts/comments/questions/concerns as I go

Yes, the Focus has the component video jacks in the center arm-rest console.

I'm not sure I see the point of it, unless the idea was to let you watch a movie while you sat in the car for three hours while charging.

Re: My random thoughts/comments/questions/concerns as I go

Ford says the only way to output video to the dashboard screen is via the component video jacks, not via USB or SD or Bluetooth. I would be amazed if anyone has gained access to the infotainment system on a level that would allow something like that. Unrelated: I have an old iPod Video that I leave ...

Re: Outdoor EVSE recommendation for snowy climate?

I just received two HCS-40 units today and am going to mount them on unistrut with a rain hood over the top, in two prominent parking spots at our engineering company. Our electrician is going to use rigid steel conduit to bring power from a 208V panelboard to a junction box underneath the HCS-40. W...

Re: Anyone from Walnut Creek (SF Bay) area?

If you get a chance to visit one of the Drive Electric Week events, you'll probably find an FFE. https://driveelectricweek.org/events-list.php There don't appear to be any FFEs registered for the Marin County event in San Rafael, but fifteen of them are registered in the bigger Cupertino event. This...
