Re: 17.1 kWh @ 20,000 miles

You might (or might not, I'm not sure) get a slightly different answer if you used the heater to do the entire rundown (from fully charged). The reason it might be different is that this approach uses a constant load, about 6 kW. Driving adds the variable of changing power loads and regeneration. Fo...

Re: 17.1 kWh @ 20,000 miles

My car is about to turn over 20,000 miles this week, so I decided to run a battery run-down test once I returned home from work last night. I am showing 17.1 kWh capacity. How does that compare with what other people are seeing at this point? No problems with the car, just two recalls (software upd...

Re: Disable Power Steering

As stated above, the most wasteful device on the FFE is the heater. Nothing you can do (disabling power steering, streamlining, pumping up tires to 100 PSI, etc) would touch the advantage of a heat pump vs the resistive heater. Worse, it comes into play when it's cold outside and battery performance...

Re: 2017 FFE charging question

Nope, can't do it. Short of stopping the charge. Or using a programmable EVSE. I'm thinking you are worried about battery life, and want to charge to a lower state to keep the battery healthy. If that's the reason, don't waste your time. There is a buffer built into the battery (some debate on uppe...

Re: Battery Backup Project

Upon further thought, I think yes, this could work. However I still don't think it's the way to go. You can charge it easily enough, it's only a 6S unit. Off the shelf battery management charger with balancing capability would work. The efficiency will be low, since you are charging one battery pack ...

Re: Battery Backup Project

How often is the lack of range an issue for you? Most days? Or occasionally? Is there a place (friend, relative, business) along your regular route where you could install a charging station? Or even a 220 V outlet? I did that at a friends house...used that as my private auxiliary charging station. ...

Re: End of lease? What are you doing?

Definitely don't pay $16K. If you can get a pristine for half that, maybe OK. I would either get a super-cheap lease on a new car (2016 FFE? Spark? Fiat? Leaf?) or get a Volt or Bolt. Little reason to get an 80 mile car today unless you can deal with it (sounds like you can) and it's almost free. Fi...

Re: 2016 FFE Review on CleanTechnica

If I read you correctly, you stated that the nav/GOM integration was based on "as the crow flies" distances. In my 2013, it was based on the actual route. Did this change?

Re: CCS upgrade for older Focus Electrics

I have to agree with jmueller. The Focus is a sales failure because Ford makes no effort to sell it. And now it's obsolescent. At the Los Angeles Auto Show this year, the FFE, together with Energi models was behind a wall, out of sight from the main display of ICE cars and trucks. In the GM booth, t...
