Re: Better 12V battery option?

So why not a deep cycle battery? I was going to go with a cylindrical cell AGM (Optima Yellow Top) These are about as good as it gets as far as lead acid goes. They are deep cycle batteries. I opted for the LiFePO4 because they are about the same cost and the LiFePO4 suppsoedly has about 10x the cy...

Re: Better 12V battery option?

So I got a bit over 3 years out of my warranty replacement Motorcraft battery. I'm not sure what the FFE does to abuse these so much besides running them flat every so often. Anyway I had planned on shoehorning in an Optima Yellow Top deep cycle AGM but I know how bad it is for the battery every tim...

Re: Tested OEM EVSE and it appears to do L2 Charging fine….

Only certain versions can do 240V. You got lucky you didn't have one of the 120V only units or you would have immediately let the magic smoke out of them and you would have had a nice paperweight.

Re: Upgrade to Sync 3.4

I think there is a way to update just the maps. I'm looking into it. What does Sync 3.4 do that 3.0 does not?

Re: Registration / License Plate Cost

In Ohio BEV's and PHEVs pay a $200 tax on top of what an ICE pays. If you own a hybrid without a plug, you pay $100 more since your car is clearly too efficient to contribute your fair share... Lucky me! Since I own 2 BEVs and only drive about 5,000 miles per year, in road tax I now pay $400/year in...

Re: The cooling problems continue

Sounds like you may have a dead pump or clogged coolant filter. the battery cooling passages are practically foil thin metal plates sandwiched between the cells in the pack. taking apart the pack would accomplish nothing. The battery loop also goes thru the charger. there are any number of hoses you...

Re: HVAC - lower the power drain or disable the heater ?

Yeah I gave up on this years ago. I just use "vent" mode when temps are in-between summer/winter. Temp set to "lo" and manual fan speed. AC off unless it's needed. I had thought about putting a diesel (kerosene) parking heater in place of the PTC heater to help with winter range but I never had the ...

Sync 2 to Sync 3 Upgrade How-To

Sync 2 to Sync 3 FFE upgrade guide: Sync 3 ditches Microsoft windows CE in favor of Blackberry's QNX operating system. Besides new features and a better UI, the touch screen is MUCH more responsive. Hardware for the upgrade is as follows: - Sync 3 APIM and screen. (the Sync 2 screen is not compatibl...

Re: 2012 Bleeding Brakes and Coolant Flush?

I feel the need to dispel some misinformation. You absolutely should bleed the brakes!!! The brake system is NOT sealed and DOT 3 or 4 (whatever the FFE uses) is highly hygroscopic. IIRC the owners manual says to do it every 2 years which IMHO is overly conservative. 5 years is the interval I use. S...
