Re: Adding Extra Battery Power to FFE

This bodes well for the genset trailer idea I was throwing around. Thinking of repackaging the SOBDMs Sefs used for the 30kW charger into a portable configuration that could be fed from a 20kW generator head and tapped into the DC bus. It would allow "hybrid" operation on the highway or could just b...

Re: Using FORscan to improve range

What are you expecting to do?

The only thing I'd expect those change is how aggressive the pedal reacts, and that's something you can do yourself. Or worse, it's a placebo.

Is it this? https://evtun.com/ev-chips.html

Re: DIY upper HV pack removal

Looks like I've found where I'm going to splice in my GenSet connection. Thanks for the pictures.

Re: Flat towing revisit

So you're telling me that when the car is on and in neutral, the unpowered windings are not effectively open circuit? When the motor is being driven, you have IGBTs that power the windings by switching them on a DC bus in the necessary sequence, but each winding is not always "on" and when the IGBTs...

The Focus CHAdeMO mod returns!

Through a series of extremely lucky events, I have taken possession of the CHAdeMO mod and charger built by Sefs. The charger had to be partially disassembled for it's trip to Arizona and suffered a little (repairable) damage in transit, but it will be brought back online while I work on getting the...

Flat towing revisit

Been thinking about this and I can only think of one possible problem for flat towing. The parts that don't factor: On my 2012, there is no steering lock so it would be able to track on a tow bar while "off". When placed in park, the drivetrain is arrested by a "parking pawl" that engages in the tra...

Info on the new travel charger and musings on J1772

Ford finally managed to steal my old travel charger and swap for one of the new units with the thermal sensor in the NEMA plug. Seems it has a PIC microcontroller running things. I *may* try to reverse engineer the board and load my own code to a similar PIC to have the unit offer 16A - even if I ha...

Re: How to slightly boost on-board charger current draw?

I suppose it all depends on how much hassle it ends up being.

If I can poke a value into the HW over CAN and get a 10% boost in charging I'll do it. If I have to rip it out and reverse engineer the firmware I wouldn't bother.

Re: Allow battery maintenance power during value charge

Tested during the summer. With value charge enabled it did not cycle cooling at all. Turned it off and it did.
