Re: Goodbye to my Focus Electric?

New Update: Turns out one of the high level executives in the parking garage management company that runs my parking garage is an advocate for EV infrastructure. When he found out about my situation, he asked a Maryland manufacturer of commercial charging stations for a quote on installing two charg...

Re: Goodbye to my Focus Electric?

An update: I have contacted the garage owner (after weeks of trying) to see if I can pay to install my charger in their garage. They asked for the parking spot number and the specs for installing the charger. So it sounds like they are considering it. But I haven't heard anything after that and I mo...

Re: Goodbye to my Focus Electric?

We will be living in a condo with dedicated parking spaces in a parking garage. In case some of you don't regularly read the official Ford Forum (I don't very often) there is an excellent point made by a poster regarding the law in California. Enacted in February 2012, California requires condo ass...

Re: Goodbye to my Focus Electric?

If they won't let you install an EVSE, you could try for a 220 outlet and use a portable charger Heck, you could probably even live with a 110 outlet. Most of us probably got by with only the 110 for the first few months (I'm one month in and still waiting for a 220 setup). I tried it for a month r...

Goodbye to my Focus Electric?

My wife and I just sold our house in the 'burbs and are moving into the city. We will be living in a condo with dedicated parking spaces in a parking garage. I have tried to contact the garage owners to see if they would let me install a charger by one of the dedicated spots, but I haven't gotten a ...

Re: When is the 12 volt battery being charged?

Well, I just looked into replacing my battery myself, and they make it VERY hard to remove the 12V battery. Since I'm under warranty, I've decided to have it taken to the local Ford dealer. I am going to request that they upgrade the battery, though - even if I have to pay for it.

Re: When is the 12 volt battery being charged?

My commute is 7 miles each way. But the car does fine with that. It died over Thanksgiving weekend, and I think it is because I was only using it occasionally for short trips to the grocery store (< 0.25 miles). This is the third time it has died on me (I've had it since July 2012) after sitting unu...

Re: When is the 12 volt battery being charged?

Am I correct that the car charges the 12V battery from the high voltage battery when turned on? Yes. The 12V battery is not (directly) charged from regenerative braking. With my FFE, the voltage across the 12V battery measures about 12.5V when the car is off, 13.5V when the car is plugged in, and 1...

3rd Party 12V battery for my FFE

I love my FFE, and am willing to accept the 12V battery issues as part of the risk of beta testing a new technology. I have never been a fan of Motorcraft car batteries, and think I can minimize some of the dead 12V battery issues I've been having by purchasing a better battery. In particular, Consu...

Re: When is the 12 volt battery being charged?

I went on a three week trip and left my FFE plugged into my level 2 charger. When I came back, the high voltage battery was fully charged and the 12V battery was dead. I assume this is because the car does not detect when the 12V battery needs charging, and will not charge it from the level 2 charge...
